Synchronize Files and Folders using Powershell

Hello everyone!

Last week I was helping an Application Admin to Synchronize files and folders between Source and Destination Servers. The challenge was because some folders had really long hierarchies, so you could imagine something like this.

I would say that doing this for some files it is really ok, but for my case we are talking about of 10GB of data and around 4K folders in the root level. Basically, this was the solution that I was able to come up.

Python Virtual Environments! Be safe! How to setup!

Hi everyone,

You all know that lately I have been learning a bit of Python and one of the very first things that every single course says are: Create all your projects in a Python Virtual Environment. However, what does Virtual Environment mean?

When you do a default installation of Python, you can pretty much use it, install packages and create all your projects and this will work without any problems. The problem begins when a particular project of yours starts to have dependencies of a certain Python package in a certain level. If you run pip upgrade for a package in your global environment all projects that uses that one will get upgraded as well. The outcome from that are two possible results.

1) Your package is upgraded successfully and all projects that relates to that also work after.

2) Your package is upgraded successfully and some of your projects stops to work because of version compatibility. Read the rest of this entry

First of all! Really, really thanks dbatools team for this. I don’t have words to describe the impact that you guys have in my job. I use it every single day!

Now… back to the subject..

Those days I was preparing myself for a presentation and started to play around with Online Services Content Packs and decided to use the GitHub App Connector that is available.

In the left bottom of the Power BI area you have the Get Data option.

Once the page is opened you should choose Services and click on GET.

For example. nowadays the majority of the sessions that I go are about Database Lifecycle management. However, SQL Saturday’s are also good to meet new people, hear from the experts, etc.. So please, go to the event page and register it, as there will be plenty of great sessions!

Creating Custom SSRS Security Roles

When you have a consolidated environment, usually you don’t want to set very broad permissions to users, most of the times you only want them to see what is really necessary.

Doing that in the Database Engine is quite easy, but what about Reporting Services? We know that SSRS exposes the following default roles: Browser, Content Manager, My Reports, Publisher and Report Builder. However, for me sometimes those roles offer too much to the user.

What people usually don’t know is that you can connect to your SSRS Instance using SQL Server Management Studio and then create customized roles. So, let me show you how to do it. Read the rest of this entry
